Wild flower ID prototype

  • User research for a wild flower ID app

Imagine a smartphone app that could identify wild flowers – just from a photo and a few simple observations. Kew Gardens and Oxford University together developed a proof of concept demonstration that showed how this idea was technically achievable. It combined image recognition technology with a botanical key to make wild flower identification incredibly easy. We also commissioned digital agency Fjord to help us carry out extensive design research to explore how mobile interfaces could be designed to achieve the best possible successful identification by interested, but non-technical users.
